ECTA 2008 MOTORCYCLE RULES

If you have any questions in regards to the enforcement of these rules feel free to direct them to ectatech@twinjugsracing.com.

This page is intended to offer some clarification for the following section of the ECTA rules adminstered at Maxton, NC only. This is being posted to give racers some examples, thoughts and guidelines on what is generally acceptable to pass tech in regards to these specific rules. These are only a guildeline and the final decisions can only be made in person after a tech has visually inspected your gear!

All motorcycle riders are required to use the following riding equipment, except where clearly inconsistent with Streamliner rules.

7.C.1 Driver’s Helmet:
All riders must wear a full-face helmet with face shield, which must meet Snell Foundation M2000 or later specifications. No open face helmets will be allowed. Helmets will be visually inspected at least once each year. Helmets must be undamaged, unmodified and in serviceable condition. Eyeglasses worn under the helmet must be shatterproof.

Riders must demonstrate proper helmet fit and “roll off” resistance.

7.C.2 Leathers:
Leathers certified by a recognized manufacturer to be suitable for the application are required. One-piece suits or two-piece suits zippered together are allowed. Required over 175 MPH: One-piece leathers or

two-piece leathers with full (270 degree) metal zipper. Also required over 175 MPH: Special protective armor, as produced by a recognized manufacturer, with minimum coverage at elbows, knees, shoulders, hips and back. Undergarments having the required armor coverage are acceptable, when the undergarment is worn with the required leather suit.

7.C.4 Gloves: Leather gloves are required. No perforated or skeleton gloves are permitted.

This is an example of what is considered to be the minimum requirements to pass inspection in regards to the "over 175mph special protective armor" clause (ie:Also required over 175 MPH: Special protective armor, as produced by a recognized manufacturer, with minimum coverage at elbows, knees, shoulders, hips and back. Undergarments having the required armor coverage are acceptable, when the undergarment is worn with the required leather suit.)

"Closed cell, cross linked polyethylene foam in a high density formulation"

The following are links to several manufactures that carry armor to assist in meeting the "over 175mph special protective armor" clause. These are merely posted as examples of what is available and not meant to be an endorsement of product or recommendation. If buying new gear look for wording in the description similar to this; Removeable dual-density protective armor in shoulder, elbows, and knees

Bates Leathers and Syed Leathers, two of the many well known manufacturers that make custom leathers, have packages available that meet most of the requirements. However, with the two listed below, some form of back protection would still be necessary:
  • Bates Leathers; full padding: extra leather in hi-density closed cell foam in the shoulders, elbows/forearms, hips and knees (Road Race and Street/Sport Suits only)
  • Syed Leathers; full protection Package (Roadracing) can include shoulder, elbow/forearm, knee and hip protection.

The following are examples of undergarments that provide armor protection for various areas:

Additional hip protection

Back protector vest with chest protection (front)

Back protector vest with chest protection (back)

Back protector

Ventalation perforations and stretch panels in non-impact areas ARE permitted for use with the ECTA.
The following are examples of some suits that have passed tech at Maxton.
